VYNCKE supplies biomass system for Sully-sur-Loire factory

As part of their Green Energy Sully project, Meridiam, Dalkia and Swiss Krono France have inauguarated their energy plant.
The primary goal was to reduce CO2 emissions, with two new low-temperature dryer belts installed, powered by a biomass plant.
Dalkia chose to work with VYNCKE to supply this plant.
The Green Energy Sully project addresses a triple challenge at the Sully-sur-Loire Swiss Krono factory: reducing dust & VOC emissions, reducing energy consumption, and, most importantly, the decarbonisation of the factory.
The project required a €120 million investment and took two years to complete.
Swiss Krono France is the country's sole producer of Oriented Strand Board (OSB) panels.
Manufacturing 1200m3 of panels on today's basis, the company felt stunted in its growth due to the inefficient high-temperature dryers it used for drying the OSB strands.
Through the realisation of this project, the company also aimed to increase its production capacity.
The project was realised in two parallel stages.
First, two low-temperature belt dryers were installed.
These dryers replaced two high-temperature rotary drum dryers, making the plant 5-10% more energy efficient, all while reducing dust emissions and boosting productivity.
Simultaneously, a biomass energy plant was put in place to power those dryers and aid in the factory’s processes.
For this, DALKIA chose to work with VYNCKE, a Belgian company which had supplied them with biomass boilers numerous times in the past.
VYNCKE supplied a turnkey 65 MW biomass energy system, tailor-made for energy supply to particle board, OSB and lamination production.
The energy plant is equipped with a water-cooled step grate and combustion chamber and a flue gas condenser, resulting in energy production with an efficiency above 100%.
The biomass waste burned in the fuel flexible boiler consists of bark, wood waste, sander dust and other wood residues from the SWISS KRONO wood panel production processes.
The energy plant supplies 55 MW hot water to power two dryers, and 18 MW thermal oil, which is used for the presses.
The maintenance and operation of the energy plant falls under the responsibility of Dalkia, which will deliver the produced energy to the Swiss Krono factory.
"Thanks to the Green Energy Sully project, Swiss Krono France can boast a CO2 reduction of 35.000 tons per year (equivalent to 19.000 cars), a 5-10% reduction in energy requirements and an 80-95% reduction of natural gas," said VYNCKE.
