VTTI’s biomass-to-energy business takes off

VTTI subsidiary VIDA Bioenergy is dedicated to transforming biomass into renewable energy. Lars Boetje, CEO, tells Bioenergy Insight about the company’s mission and major projects.
VTTI, a global leader in energy infrastructure, announced the launch of VIDA bioenergy, a newly formed subsidiary that is 100% owned by VTTI, in January this year. The organisation did have an existing RNG business, but it decided to create VIDA bioenergy as an entirely separate business unit. This would enable it to focus more intensively on RNG and biogas.
“This was because the customers, regulations and requirements are quite different from VTTI's core business,” Lars told Bioenergy Insight. “The rationale was to accelerate the growth of the RNG/biogas business by having a dedicated unit focused on that market, separate from VTTI's main operations. This allows VIDA bioenergy to specialise and dedicate specific resources to developing the RNG/biogas opportunities.”
In this way, VIDA bioenergy will enable more targeted growth and development of the RNG market.
