Valmet to deliver automation technology to Asian biomass power plant

Valmet has announced an agreement to supply an Asian biomass plant with automation technology, for an undisclosed sum.

Phase 2 of the Dangjin 4 Biomass Power Plant, which is owned by GS EPS, is currently under construction in the South Korean city of Dangjin, near Seoul.

Delivery is due to take place at the end of 2019, with installation and commissioning to begin in February 2020. The order was placed by GS Engineering & Construction (GS E&C), which is responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction of the biomass power plant.

"Valmet's automation system is one of the best and most optimised solution for biomass-fired power plants,” said Seung il Choi, general manager at GS E&C. “In addition, Valmet listens very carefully to its customers' wishes and concerns. We expect phase 2 to be successful with a great partner like Valmet.”

The automation contract includes a DNA automation system, vibration monitoring system, plant performance system, information management system, fuel management system, boiler protection system and boiler environmental package system.

Valmet successfully delivered automation technology for the first phase of the Dangjin 4 biomass power plan in 2014-15.

Phase 2 will have a capacity of 105MW and will be fuelled by 100% wood chips. Upon completion, the Dangjin facility will be the latest biomass power plan in Asia.
