US renewables businesses combine to form Ares-backed Sagepoint Energy

Sagepoint brings together three existing and established organisations with extensive expertise and market presence collectively aimed at positioning the company for further growth.
The first, Dynamic Renewables (Dynamic), is a full-service developer, owner and operator of anaerobic digestion facilities that convert dairy manure into carbon-negative renewable natural gas (RNG).
Dynamic has led the development and construction of six anaerobic digestion projects producing 1.3 BCF annually.
BC Organics is one of North America's largest integrated biorefineries producing low-carbon RNG, dried fibre bedding and clean water via partnerships with 11 Wisconsin dairy farms and the delivery of ~900,000 gallons of dairy manure per day.
The third organisation, National Organics, is a leading transportation and logistics company, specialising in the collection and transportation of organic waste across the Midwestern US.
Sagepoint is headquartered in Carmel, Indiana and led by Chief Executive Officer Aaron Johnson, who has served as CEO of Dynamic since December 2023.
He previously held roles as CEO of Kinetrex Energy when it was acquired by Kinder Morgan, Inc. (“KMI”) and then as President of RNG at KMI, where he led various investment and strategic initiatives focused on scaling the organisation’s biogas footprint.
“By uniting these leading organisations under the Sagepoint platform, we are creating a stronger, more comprehensive organisation that can deliver integrated best-in-class waste management and energy solutions to our clients,” said Johnson. “We look forward to executing our integrated strategy for long-term growth under the Sagepoint brand.”
Sagepoint is supported and majority owned by Ares Management Infrastructure Opportunities funds (Ares), a leading alternative investment manager across the infrastructure value chain, as well as a minority investment by an unregulated affiliate of NorthWestern Energy Group.
Ares’ and NorthWestern’s initial equity investments in Dynamic were previously announced in July 2023.
“We are thrilled to partner with Aaron and team as Sagepoint embarks on its next phase of growth,” said Andy Pike, Partner and Co-Head of Ares Infrastructure Opportunities. “There is robust market demand for avenues to up-cycle organic waste streams, and we look forward to supporting the company as it aims to build on its successes and continue to provide quality sustainable solutions to its customers.”
Sagepoint expands into landfill gas market
At the end of March, Sagepoint announced the closing of two strategic asset acquisitions.
The two recently acquired RNG assets – Lynx Renewable Energy Kansas (Lynx) and Renewable Power Producers (RPP) – are both operating and produce pipeline-quality RNG utilising landfill gas as feedstock.
Lynx, located adjacent to the Plumb Thicket Landfill in Harper, Kansas, was acquired in September 2024 and has been in operation since 2022. The facility is set to undergo a strategic expansion to support various growth initiatives on-site.
RPP, located adjacent to the HAMM Sanitary Landfill in Lawrence, Kansas, was acquired in February 2025 and has been in operation since 2017.
Together, Lynx and RPP are expected to produce approximately 1 bcf of RNG per annum, bringing Sagepoint’s total anticipated annual RNG production to ~1.5 bcf.
These assets support Sagepoint’s mission to provide diversified resource efficiency solutions to its customers and reinforces the company’s commitment to reducing emissions across the US natural gas supply chain, said the business.
“We are thrilled to announce the Lynx and RPP transactions, which represent a significant milestone in Sagepoint's feedstock diversification strategy," said Nick Soncrant, Sagepoint VP of Business Development. "We are eager to incorporate these valuable assets into our portfolio and contribute to the continued expansion of our RNG capabilities."
