UK anaerobic digestion plants sold for €14.6 million

According to London South East, John Laing Environmental has acquired an anaerobic digestion asset in Yorkshire.

The company is reported to have bought Biogas Meden for £16.2 million (€14.6 million). London South East states that John Laing Environmental acquired the AD plant from a subsidiary of environmental infrastructure fund, BayWa Renewable Energy. According to the fund, the price of the plant is subject to a post-completion working capital adjustment.

Commissioned on the 26 March 2018, the AD plant is located about 25 miles southeast of Sheffield, south Yorkshire. The plant primarily produces biomethane that will then be injected into the national gas grid. It also has a thermal capacity of five thermal megawatts.   

Once the acquisition has been completed, London South East reports that John Laing Environmental will have a portfolio of six anaerobic digestion projects. The total capacity of its renewable energy assets currently stands at 279.2 megawatts.

Chairman of John Laing Environmental, Richard Morse told London South East “This latest acquisition takes the company’s portfolio beyond £500 million (€554 million) and delivers on the company's recent ambition to further diversify its portfolio into the bioenergy sector."
