Spain to speed up grid connection process for biomethane plants
Spain's National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC) has approved the resolution (RDC/DE/004/22) that will simplify the procedures for biomethane producers to connect their facilities to the gas network in an agile, transparent and non-discriminatory manner.
Biomethane production has strong potential in Spain because it is linked to agricultural and agri-food activities, according to the CNMC.
During 2023, the nine plants connected to the system produced 243 GWh, 40% more than in 2022. Currently, there are numerous projects in development that require interaction between producers and gas operators.
The CNMC resolution will facilitate the procedures and will contribute to meeting the decarbonisation objectives of the natural gas system, said the organisation.
