Small-scale, big ambition
Its anaerobic digestion (AD) plant might be compact, but there is nothing small about UK-based green energy experts Gegan Solutions’ plans for its small scale biogas plant in 2021.
As you would expect from an AD plant, Gegan Solutions’ compactAD plant creates biogas from organic waste (food waste) through AD and uses this biogas to fuel and run a combined heat and power (CHP) generator.
But what makes its plant unique, and what has helped the firm to beat off stiff competition from across the globe to win Best Small Scale Biogas Plant at the Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association and World Biogas Association annual awards, is the compact size of the plant.
Gegan Solutions’ AD plant is the size of a shipping container by design, meaning more businesses can fit a plant at their location, thereby reducing the costs, road miles, and carbon footprint associated with transporting waste to large AD facilities.
