“Short-term blips but a positive outlook for the UK’s premium pellet market”

The UK premium wood pellet market has, like many other countries across Europe, experienced some turbulence over recent months with the crisis in Ukraine having an immediate effect on global EN Plus A1 pellet prices and supply.
Despite the year starting on a more positive note with the UK Government announcing its new Boiler Upgrade Scheme, a replacement for the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) which over the last eight years has seen more than 12,500 new installations with 320 MW of heat capacity, the sector is now actively navigating the impact of the crisis, but also with renewed optimism.
New global supply chains are being negotiated and rapidly established and increases in fossil fuel prices such as natural gas and heating oil have outstripped the increased pellet costs making new biomass system installations even more attractive. The UK Government’s Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), whom the UKPC work closely with, has also began rolling out grant funding of £5,000 (€5,890) towards installation costs to enable rural homeowners, especially those living off-grid in the hardest to heat...
