SBRC awards contract for bioenergy pilot project in UAE

In Masdar City, Abu Dhabi, the Sustainable Bioenergy Research Consortium (SBRC) is to award a contract to International Mechanical and Electrical Co. to build the world's first bioenergy pilot project to use desert land – irrigated by seawater – for the production of both bioenergy and food.

The contract follows new research that has been carried out at the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology.

The pilot project is expected to be operational later this year.
