RWE seeks permission to bolster Fife biomass facility
RWE has applied for permission to build a support system next to its 55MW biomass plant on the outskirts of Markinch in Fife, Scotland.
The gas-fired system would consolidate the plant's robustness should there be a power disruption; and would provide power through the National Grid.
If approved, the system will involve two gas engines in a single powerhouse, and a new gas connection.
As a standby system, the Glenrothes facility would operate for short periods, as required by the market.
However, it needs to be capable of operating for up to 1,500 hours a year.
According to planning papers submitted to Fife Council, construction will take between a year and 18 months.
Fife Council will take a final decision on the planning application.
