Renova’s Omaezakikou biomass plant begins operations earlier than expected

Japan's Renova has announced its 75 MW Omaezakikou biomass plant began operations on 29 January.
The plant uses wood pellets and palm kernel shells as feedstock.
Initially scheduled to start operations in December 2023, the Omaezakikou facility saw several delays.
Most recently, it was delayed last December, due to final adjustments being made to the boiler and turbine facilities that would ensure long-term stable operations.
March this year was the company's target for the facility to begin operation at that time.
The plant is located at the Port of Omaezaki in the southernmost part of Shizuoka Prefecture at the mouth of Suruga Bay.
Renova expects the facility to revitalise the local economy, centred on the cities of Omaezaki and Makinohara.
This will be achieved via increased use of the port and harbour facilities due to the incoming and outgoing fuel carriers.
Renova said the site will also help increase the renewable energy usage ratio.
