Poland’s “first odourless biomethane plant” goes live

The facility, which is located on the premises of the Agricultural Experimental Farm in Brody, belongs to the University of Life Sciences in Poznań.
The 0.499 MW electric installation will produce approximately 650 thousand m3 of biomethane compressed to bioCNG and sold as transport fuel per year.
The biomethane plant in Brody is odourless, thus eliminating one of the most important nuisances of this type of facilities. The technology can ultimately be implemented throughout Poland.
It was created under the supervision of scientists from the Poznań University of Life Sciences and financed by the National Centre for Research and Development.
"We are trying to be among the scientific leaders of the energy transition. Our university has been successfully conducting research on bioenergetics for years. Biogas plants have been operating for many years and with great success, a large photovoltaic farm or wind farms will soon be opened," said professor Krzysztof Szoszkiewicz, rector of the Poznań University of Life Sciences.
"History happens here," added the Minister of Climate and Environment, Paulina Hennig-Kloska, during a press conference at the Agricultural Experimental Farm in Brody. "The first biomethane plant in Poland will start producing biomethane for the needs of the Polish economy in the next 4 weeks. It will be used in transport."
She added: "Such projects are an extremely important element of the energy transformation of the Polish countryside, and this is also the purpose of the 'Energy for Rural Areas' programme launched at the beginning of February by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, which also supports the development of agricultural biogas plants."
