Japan Petroleum Exploration (JAPEX), Yonden Business, and SHINKO DENSO have announced that the Ozu Biomass Power Plant in Japan has achieved its commercial operation date of today (1 August).
The Ozu City-based power plant is a biomass-only thermal power plant using wood pellets as fuel.
With a power output of 50,000 kW and an annual power generation of approximately 350 million kWh, the power plant will be a facility that supports sustainable power supply as a renewable energy source that is not affected by the weather.
The energy will be sold to Shikoku Electric Power Transmission & Distribution Company for the next 20 years based on the feed-in tariffs scheme for renewable energy.
The business entity and sponsors will contribute to the expansion of the use of electricity derived from renewable energy sources with lower environmental impact and the development of local economies for the carbon-neutrality, with understandings and supports by the local communities in Ozu area, according to the organisations.
