Opportunity knocks for Acorn Bioenergy in 2025

As the UK government sets about quadrupling the UK’s biomethane production by 2030-2035, Acorn—which was acquired by Qualitas Energy in 2022— is scaling up its UK operations. The company is developing facilities across the UK in a bid to replace the country’s reliance on fossil fuels with biogas.
By capturing methane that would have otherwise been released from agricultural waste, the company is creating a closed-loop system that benefits both the environment and the rural economy, whilst bolstering the UK’s energy and food security.
In Bioenergy Insight’s last Q&A with Acorn, the company explained how the UK’s restrictive planning system was a real challenge for the industry in delaying the development of biomethane infrastructure. Two years later —and with ambitious net-zero targets and a policy to increase the supply of renewable gas under a Labour government— 2025 is looking more optimistic for the team.
