Nottingham’s biogas fuelled buses
Key suppliers of natural gas and biomethane for refuelling station infrastructures in the UK, Roadgas stood alongside Nottingham City Transport (NCT) at the 2018 UK Bus Wards.
In 2016 NCT and Roadgas partnered to supply and maintain a refuelling station to support the transformation of the city’s 53 strong fleet of double decker buses to biogas. It is set to be the world’s largest biogas fleet in operation. The change to biogas has seen the transport network emit nearly 3,500 tonnes less CO2, 35 tonnes less NOX and ¾ tonne less particular matter each year. This has been pivotal to help NCT meets its clean air targets.
NTC’s partnership with Roadgas is working towards having a third of its fleet run solely on biogas. Already, nearly the entire fleet has an almost carbon neutral ‘well-to-wheel’ footprint. The biogas used is produced from waste through anaerobic digestion, which Roadgas say makes for some of the greenest buses on today’s roads.
David Rix, Managing Director of Roadgas said, “We are immensely proud to be part of the Nottingham City Transport team, not only because of its dedication to improving air quality but for also providing a seamless travel experience in the region. These awards reflect the hard work and commitment by everyone at NCT in ensuring that Nottingham operates an unparalleled, premium and low emission bus service.”
