New shipyard biomass plant will use Andritz boiler
International technology group Andritz will supply a boiler to a new biomass power plant set to be built on the premises of the MES shipyard in Ichihara, 30km east of Tokyo in the Chiba Prefecture.
The new biomass power plant, fired with palm kernel shells and wood pellets, will generate around 50MW of power, meaning it will be able to supply approximately 100,000 households with clean energy from renewable sources.
Andritz received an order from Mitsui Engineering and Shipbuilding to deliver a biomass-fired circulating fluidised bed boiler with flue gas cleaning system for the new facility. As part of the deal Andritz will be responsible for engineering work, delivery, erection and start-up of the new fluidised bed boiler.
Headquartered in Graz, Austria, Andritz provides equipment services for a range of industries, including pelleting and biomass power plants.
