New Naturgy alliance could bring 30 more biomethane plants to Spain
The plants will be distributed throughout Spain, and will become operational before 2030.
They will have a capacity to generate 2.5 terawatt hours (TWh) of biomethane per year, equivalent to the consumption of 500,000 homes.
In addition, the group estimated that they will contribute to the decarbonisation of the country's economy, with the reduction of 450,000 tons of CO2, equivalent to the planting of 49 million pine trees.
This alliance between Naturgy and the Valencian group Hispania Silva, in which SB Green Energy, Casan Solar and Enraiza Coporate have interests, will produce biomethane from organic waste, transforming waste into a source of clean energy.
Furtermore, a comprehensive approach will be favoured by participating in the entire RNG value chain - from waste management to biomethane production.
Naturgy indicated that the biomethane produced in these plants will be distributed through the existing natural gas distribution networks, both to homes and industries.
Naturgy's general manager of renewable gases, José Luis Gil, said this agreement represents "one more step to take advantage of the opportunity offered by renewable gases for the decarbonisation of customers".
