Nedgia increases biomethane capacity by more than 30%

Nedgia, the Naturgy group's gas distributor, has increased its biomethane injection capacity by more than 30% over the last year, with a total of eight biomethane plants already connected and in operation.
These facilities have the capacity to produce a total of 226 gigawatt hours of this renewable gas, an amount that avoids the emission of 40,500 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, said Naturgy.
Naturgy has already closed connection contracts with more than 60 biomethane plants for the injection of renewable gas into its network, the company added.
To the plants already in operation, Nedgia will add in the short and medium term another 53 that have already signed an agreement, which will allow it to add a total of 3,365 GWh, a figure that will multiply almost 15 times the current figure and is equivalent to the consumption of more than 670,000 homes.
Nedgia is playing a strategic role in its promotion through a network of more than 60,000 kilometers with which it could deliver this gas immediately to more than 5.5 million consumers in 1,150 municipalities and 10 autonomous communities.
However, Naturgy added that, despite the growth registered in 2024, biomethane "still requires support mechanisms similar to those existing in other surrounding countries".
