news item image
ENORM BioFactory is set to expand its production of insect-based protein in 2023, resulting in an output of 11,000 tonnes of protein annually – as well as derived products such as insect oils and fertilisers – from its site in Hedensted Municipality, Denmark.
A new boiler plant is being built at the factory, in order for heat to be supplied to the 24,000 m2 insect cages, and steam for extracting protein from the insects. ENORM BioFactory has chosen to invest in local CO2-neutral biomass as the heat source, rather than natural gas.
The boiler plant will be delivered as a turnkey contract by Justsen Energiteknik, and it is designed for wood chips with the possibility of mixing garden and park waste, energy sawdust and other alternative fuel. The highly flexible boiler solution must produce both high- and low-pressure steam as well as hot water, with a total output of 6.5 MW.
Justsen all the way through the project
The assembly of the Justsen biomass boiler plant in the new boiler building is expected to begin in Spring 2023, and must be ready to supply energy to the insect factory around late Summer 2023.
