Investment opportunities in South East Asia

Dieter Billen, partner at Roland Berger, explores why South East Asia is an up-and-coming region for bioenergy investment.
Roland Berger was founded in 1967, and, with more than 50 offices, has grown to become one of the leading management consultancies worldwide. It advises its clients on strategy such as market entry or expansion into new business, M&A transactions and performance improvement topics – such as cost optimisation or reorganisation.
“Our Energy & Sustainability practice works with private and public sector clients on energy and energy transition topics, such as biofuels and biogas,” explained Billen. “For example, we are working with governments, including in South East Asia, on biofuel policies – as well as with energy companies and agriculture players on biofuel strategies and feasibility studies, off-take agreements, partnerships and M&A/financing.”
He added that, within biofuels, there is strong interest in sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), bio-methanol, ethanol, solid biomass and biochar – but also in biogas, and, increasingly, biomethane.
