Gas Networks Ireland seeks biomethane suppliers

news item image

Gas Networks Ireland plans to purchase up to 250 gigawatts of biomethane each year, which will be its first activity in procuring biomethane, reported the Irish Independent.
A Prior Information Notice has been published on the organisation's e-tenders system to sound out supplier interest.
Gas Networks Ireland will finalise its procurement strategy following market engagement, and it aims to contract multiple suppliers for up to 15 years.
It will need to procure gas each year to account for system shrinkage and operational usage.
At the moment, the organisation sources gas from the Corrib field, alongside imports from Scotland, totalling 1.6% of Ireland's total demand.
Ireland's government has allocated €40 million in funding to support a drive to replace 10% of natural gas with biomethane by 2030.
