Finland records lower biogas production for 2023
Of this amount 2,940 TJ was consumed and the remaining 370 TJ (11%) was flared, reported Daily Finland.
The amount of biogas delivered from production plants to consumption declined by 1% compared to 2022.
Biogas production on landfill collection sites dipped by 10%, and it fell by 6% in wastewater treatment facilities.
However, the amount of biogas generated from on-farm agricultural waste facilities increased by 31%.
Most biogas was produced in co-processing plants (56%), which was on par with the 2022 volume.
Co-processing plants disposed of 15% less surplus biogas than in the previous year.
The total amount of flared biogas decreased by 7%. Flaring declined most in biogas plants connected to wastewater treatment plants.
Flaring of biogas collected from landfill sites increased by 17%.
The share of on-farm agricultural waste facilities in all biogas produced was 5%.
Of all biogas produced in 2023, 11% was flared - the 2022 figure was 12%.
