ENCE funding secures project finance model for Spain biomethane plant

news item image
Spanish energy-from-biomass producer ENCE has closed financing with BBVA for one of the first biomethane plants in Spain under a project finance model.
ENCE will implement a plan to reorient its production process at this plant. It will manufacture and market organic fertilisers in accordance with European regulations.
In particular, the organic biofertilisers will be registered under EU regulation 1009/2019.
"This approach that the company will apply in La Galera will favour decarbonisation as the biofertiliser produced will not consume fossil energy, saving emissions and contributing to the energy autonomy of our country," said a company spokesperson.
"Complementarily, this business model will support denitrification thanks to the management of organic biomass and the substitution of inorganic materials, avoiding soil and aquifer contamination."
