Ländwarme, a leading biomethane supplier, service provider and trader in Europe, told Bioenergy Insight about the importance of Carbon Capture and Storage.
"On our way to halt climate change, negative emissions are a crucial component. Therefore, we cannot forgo technologies such as Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) — used most efficiently in combination with bioenergy in order to remove CO2 from the atmosphere.
"Technological efficiency, renewable energies and carbon neutrality will not be enough to avert climate change. Moreover, we will not be able to avoid 100% of all emissions, as repeatedly underlined by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). That is the reason behind the necessity of having to actively draw CO2 from the atmosphere. Not only natural ways to permanently sequester carbon dioxide have to be considered. Forests and peatlands do provide effective natural carbon sinks. Additionally, carbon capture technologies are imperatively needed: Direct Air Capture (DAC) or Carbon Capture and Storage in combination with bioenergy (BECCS) to speed up carbon removal.
"CCS is often associated with emission reduction at...
