E.ON may build new biomass plant

E.ON Climate & Renewables has been given permission by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) to construct a 150 MW biomass power plant at Royal Portbury Dock in the Port of Bristol, North Somerset. The project would create an estimated 35 full-time jobs.

E.ON was planning to annually contribute £50,000 (€59,954) to a Community Investment Fund, supporting local charitable projects for as long as the plant was in operation, with a further £75,000 (€89,931) being put towards the development of green buses and cycle routes.

However due to the possibility of future governmental subsidy cuts, the plans may not go ahead.

This would not be out of sync with current trends with Drax Power recently cancelling plans for a 290 MW biomass power plant in North Yorkshire.
