Drax to voluntarily pay £25m for misreporting biomass data

Ofgem has announced that Drax misreported data relating to biomass imported from Canada, and that the energy giant would pay £25 million to its voluntary redress fund, reported Reuters.
According to the investigation, Drax failed to implement adequate data governance controls on biomass imports from Canada between 1 April 2021 and 31 March 2022.
However, Ofgem said there was no evidence the biomass failed to meet its sustainability requirements.
“The investigation found that the misreported data was technical in nature and would not have impacted the level of subsidy Drax received under the RO (renewable obligation) scheme,” said the regulator Ofgem.
Drax will resubmit its Canadian data for the period, and produce an independent audit of its profiling data for April 2023 to March 2024, the most recent reporting period.
