A biochar processing plant in Upper Lake, California, has had its permit approved, following months of opposition.
The project, which is led by Scotts Valley Energy Corporation with the Habematolel Pomo Tribal Nation, will convert forest woodchips into syngas to power generators.
Approval was granted on 12 December by four votes to none, with one commissioner absent.
Laura Hall, Lake County senior planner said the property for the plant is to be leased to the Scots Valley Energy Corporation for 15 years, from the Department of Water Resources Flood District, reported Lake County Record-Bee.
