BSOG Energy invests €65m in Romania biomethane facility

The company, which specialises in developing biomethane projects in the country, expects the unit to have an annual capacity of 57 MW and over 250,000 tonnes of organic fertilisers.
The total investment is estimated to surpass €65 million, and the project will take about two years to complete.
According to the cooperation agreement, Unigrains will supply the raw material of unprocessed waste for the production facility and will hold and manage the rights to fertilisers resulting from the wholesale and retail markets.
BSOG Energy will be responsible for the construction, holding and operation of the project and will manage the production of biomethane.
“This exciting project represents the second biomethane production project of BSOG Energy in Romania. Cooperation with Unigrains will bring BSOG Energy another 57 MW of biomethane production," said Mark Beacom, managing director, BSOG Energy.
"Considering the elimination of organic waste from the environment and, at the same time, the production of green gas as a substitute for natural gas and organic fertilisers as a substitute for chemical fertilizers, we believe in the potential of this project to contribute significantly to Romania’s energy sustainability.
"Achieving this project requires a regulatory framework that supports it and we look forward to working together with the relevant authorities on the common objective of achieving large-scale biomethane developments in the country.”
“The proposal of BSOG Energy marks the peak of our agricultural strategy. In partnership with BSOG Energy, we look forward to offering a sustainable alternative, integrating our products with traditional technology, in order to produce high quality organic fertilisers and ultimately clean food,” added Theodor Ichim, Unigraphins trading administrator and president of the Forum of Professional Farmers and Processors in Romania (FAPPR).
