Biomass Development Zone Initiative releases first report
The report underscores the BDO Zone Initiative's role in bridging the gap between local biomass resources and global bioenergy stakeholders.
By providing communities with the tools to signal their readiness for bio-manufacturing, BDO Zones are paving the way for job creation, economic development, and clean energy production, according to the organisation.
The report found a 358% growth in BDO Zone ratings from 12 in 2023 to 43 by 2024 year-end.
There are 15 BDO Zones currently in serious contract discussions with 25 bio-manufacturing projects.
Over $4 billion in capital has been raised, driven by BDO Zone ratings, and 6.3 million stakeholders reached through strategic promotions and events.
Alongside that, there have been 850 average downloads/views per rating issued in 2024.
It has also achieved Recognition in the USDA's 2024 'Plan to Enable the Bioeconomy in America' as a crucial tool for accelerating bio-based development.
Jordan Solomon, chairman of the BDO Zone Initiative, stated: “61 BDO Zones is a significant milestone — but it is not enough. If we truly wish to reach the potential of our national bioeconomy, we must continue to build towards our ambitious goal of 1000 BDO Zones in four years.
"The journey ahead is challenging, but the potential rewards for our economy, environment, and communities are immense. Together, we are laying the foundation for a thriving, sustainable bioeconomy that will shape the future of energy and manufacturing in North America.”
The report also highlights strategic initiatives launched in 2024, including the BDO Zone Strategic Partners Network and the BDO Zone Project Developer Network, which aim to expedite project development and connect BDO Zones with global opportunities.
