Bharat Petroleum partnership to develop sorghum as feedstock

Bharat Petroleum Corp has partnered with the National Sugar Institute in Kanpur, India, to develop sweet sorghum as a feedstock for the production of bioethanol.
Bharat Petroleum is allocating INR 500 million for research and development, said the company.
This funding is being earmarked to optimise sweet sorghum yields, enhance agricultural practice and generate efficient juice extraction and fermentation for boosting ethanol production.
Leftover biomass will be examined for compressed biogas and other value-added applications.
The corporation has also signed two other agreements to strengthen its activity in sectors related to petrochemicals and renewable energy.
The company said it will purchase propane and butane for a period of one year from Equinor India Pvt. Ltd., a 100% subsidiary of Norwegian-based Equinor ASA.
