Bauskas launches public consultation for biogas plant

news item image
The Latvian municipality of Bauskas in Latvia has launched a public consultation regarding the construction of a new biogas plant, called Kekava Bioenergy.
The construction plan would see the development of a biogas plant to modernise and improve the extant poultry farming process of Kekava Foods.
Manure collected from poultry houses would be converted into biogas and biomethane.
Consequently, poultry litter manure would be used as raw materials for the facility.
If the plans go ahead, the existing open manure storage would be completely eliminating - removing odour emissions and pollution risks.
Manure will not be stored in open storage, it will be dissolved and anaerobically processed in hermetic systems.
The fermentation tanks will be equipped with modern sensors and hermetic filling and emptying systems, assisting with ensuring safety and emission prevention.
All equipment, including pipes used to transport raw materials, digestate and gas, will be sealed, preventing any emission of odours or pollutants.
Similarly, 95% of the pipelines will be underground, further reducing the possibility of odour emissions.
The public consultation will close on 24 February.
