Aries Clean Energy biochar earns USDA certification

Tennessee-based waste-to-energy gasification firm Aries Clean Energy announced that its Aries Green biochar product has earned the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Certified Biobased Product label as well as a biochar certification from the International Biochar Institute (IBI).

The verification of the product’s biobased content is administered through the USDA’s BioPreferred programme which is an initiative created by the 2002 Farm Bill.

“The certification of Aries Green biochar by both these groups is a great accomplishment,” said Gregory Bafalis, CEO of Aries Clean Energy.

“This will give our product an edge in today’s biochar marketplace. It’s further validation that downdraft gasification is a green solution for wood waste streams.

“Consumers can confidently use this on houseplants, lawns, and gardens knowing that nothing in it is harmful because it has been through independent testing. We are currently working to take Aries Green biochar to the public later this year.”

The USDA Certified Biobased Product label displays a product's biobased content, which is the portion of a product that comes from a renewable source, such as plant, animal, marine, or forestry feedstocks.

“We applaud Aries Clean Energy, LLC for earning the USDA Certified Biobased Product label," said Kate Lewis, USDA BioPreferred Program.

“Products from Aries Clean Energy LLC are contributing to an ever-expanding marketplace that adds value to renewable agriculture commodities, creates jobs in rural communities, and decreases our reliance on petroleum.”
