EnviTec breaks ground on fifth biogas project in China
German company EnviTec has commenced work on a new biogas facility in Shanxi, 500km southwest of Beijing. The recent ground-breaking ceremony marked the beginning of EnviTec’s fifth biogas project in China.
Shanxi Shenmu New Energy will be responsible for operating the 1,570Nm3 biogas plant following its completion at the end of 2018, and will also handle all construction work.
Jörg Fischer, CFO of EnviTec Biogas, explained: “We are naturally providing our customer with expertise, and supplying both project and construction supervisors and senior installation personnel who are organising the construction process and managing it on-site.
“We are supplying the main components of the input systems and biogas plant, while the customer is constructing the gas utilisation systems.”
Each of the six digesters used to generate biogas will have a volume of 5,250 cubic metres. As well as two walking floors, four biogas Kreis-Dissolver units are used to process the input materials, including maize, silage, turkey manure and dairy slurry.
Once commissioning at the facility has been completed, the biogas produced will be compressed to bio CNG and sold locally from the plant premises in China.
Shanxi Shenmu is a subsidiary of Shanxi Coal & Chemical Industry Group. The state-run organisation employs around 130,000 people and is one of the biggest corporations in China.
The new facility will be EnviTec’s fifth in the Chines market, following the Minhe I and II, Yingtan and Dingzhou projects. “In the near future, China will remain a huge source of potential revenue – although competition will become fiercer in what is now a growing market,” Fischer predicted.
